As the COVID-19 situation rapidly evolves the Lower Duck Pond Department of Public Safety has been working with local and county hospitals to develop and execute a unified plan to combat the spread of the virus. One of the services the DPS is known for is assisting emergency services in writing grant applications to better bolster the town's ability to maintain public safety and respond to emergency situations. The LDPDPS has applied for and received a federal grant meant to assist in the mitigation of the spread of COVID-19. This grant is to be used to provide PPE to emergency service professionals and hospitals within the county. Additionally, the grant now insures that all area hospitals are provided with proper screening equipment to include exterior tents which will be used to screen patients and visitors prior to entering the hospital and test kits. Grants received by LDPDPS costs the city nothing and are not expected to be repaid. Emergency services are encouraged to use the grant application service provided by LDPDPS whenever they need to.
