The 9PM routine was created to combat easily preventable theft and home invasion. At 9PM residents are encouraged to take a moment to ensure that car doors are locked and all valuables and sensitive materials are removed from their vehicles. This includes: jewelry, wallets, firearms and garage door openers that may be stowed in vehicles parked in driveways. Additionally residents should confirm that all doors, windows, fence gates and outbuildings are secured and locked. I cannot stress enough that a lock is only useful if you lock it. In 2019 46% of all homes burglarized, at night, in Lower Duck Pond were accessed via a point of ingress which the resident had failed to lock. Another 21% of homes burglarized, at night, were accessed via the garage, which the suspect entered using a garage door opener left inside a vehicle in the driveway of the home. A few extra minutes before bed may save you a big headache later. Be safe Lower Duck Pond!
